Learn more about Markus!
From January 2024 we will have 60 employees in Molde, and among these a total of 11 nationalities are represented! One of the employees that has chosen to move to Molde and join AXTech is Markus Kessler, a young German that thinks Molde is the perfect place to be!
After having a summer job in his father´s company, he got the motivation and interest for Electrical and Automation technology. He started his bachelor in Electrical Engineering & Information Technology at the Technical University in München in 2015, and after completing this he went further to a Master within Automation and Robotics at the same University. And it was during his Master´s he got the first link to Norway:
“The University had an Erasmus exchange-program that made it possible to have a semester at NTNU in Trondheim. At the University in München they actually had a teacher from Ålesund that held Norwegian courses, and I took this as part of my obligatory non-technical subjects at the Master. By this I had one year to learn Norwegian before I left, which was very useful when I came to Norway,” explains Markus.
But how did Markus hear about Molde and end up in AXTech?
“The line association for cybernetics, Omega at NTNU, had a website where I found a link to Trainee Molde. I made contact and received good information about the further application process. The application deadline was unfortunately over, but I submitted an open application on a Friday. The following Monday, Eythor (Manager Systems Engineering in AXTech) called me and then we had an interview on Teams and soon after I received a job offer. It went quickly and I'm happy about that!”, smiles Markus.
And so are we! Markus has now been 6 months in AXTech, and we want to know how he experienced his first months and what he has learned so far:
“I got a really good onboarding in the Systems Department. The team consists of hydraulic, electrical and automation disciplines, and until now I have touched on all three. I went through several internal courses when I began the trainee period, and this gave me very useful input from the start. Eythor gave me responsibility for an internal project that I should run as a normal project to get to know the “AXTech way”, procedures and methods. The goal was to build a motor test bench and I got the opportunity to develop my own control system including a touch panel, which gave me great joy as an automation engineer. Furthermore, I learned a lot about the other disciplines by assembling mechanical parts and electronics hands-on based on drawings I made. The test bench is now used for real testing on an ongoing project we have for an international Client. Very cool!” says Markus. And he is very happy about the support of his co-workers:
“In AXTech there are experts in every technical discipline. There is always someone to ask, and even though we have a lot to do, people always take their time to answer and support. That is something I appreciate”.
Markus has a long-term plan for work in Molde:
“I really enjoy my work and the possibility in this town. I have several good collegues I hang out with, for example visiting the Climbing center in Molde. But I have also been proactive in joining different clubs and associations to get to know people and create a network. I have contacted the kayak club and the Norwegian Tourist Association and find great joy in being out in nature. This summer I volunteered at the jazz festival and got to know new people. I don't think it's as difficult to get to know people in Molde as some say, but it's probably a good idea to be a little curious and actively seek out different activities. That is at least my tip to other foreigners that move here.”
